It’s no secret that being an athlete takes tremendous dedication, hard work, and a natural desire. These qualities are exactly what have gained Dalilah Muhammad and Eliud Kipchoge the title of Athlete of the Year.

About Eliud Kipchoge

Kipchoge hails from Kenya, an African country renowned for its rich culture. The 35-year-old has only added to his success as he has just recently also won the London Marathon and not for the first time but rather for the fourth time. He gained this award after being the first athlete to have completed the entire marathon in just under two hours. The marathon was held in April in London and is one of the biggest athletic events of the year.
The athlete ran 26.2 miles in exactly 1 hour, 59 minutes and 40 seconds in an October challenge which is where he set the record.

Many may not know, but Eliud Kipchoge won Athlete of the year in 2018, making this year his second title to his long list of accomplishments. When asked about his most recent achieving, Kipchoge responded by saying that he hopes he could be the one to inspire the human race and that he was incredibly happy to have been able to make history.

At the age of 29, the Athlete of the Year ran and won the World Championship 400 meter hurdles breaking a world record for the second time. The American athlete is humbled by her award and reportedly told the media that despite the year being a tough one, she had hoped that her achievements could and would inspire her generation. She continued by saying that she had never imagined her year would end in such a brilliant manner and that she was indeed grateful and thankful.

In 2016 Dalilah Muhammad won the Olympic title in Rio which was a huge achievement for the female category. Muhammed specializes in hurdles and is what has gained her this title but she isn’t limited in her achievements. In 2019 Muhammed achieved the title at the 2019 World Championships. Here is where she set a world record, a massive achievement, for having completed 400 meter hurdles in a record time of 52.16 seconds, just under a minute.

Muhammad has also won the 2013, 2016 and 2017 American national champion title, making Athlete of the Year award just one more accomplishment.

Athlete of the Year is a massive achievement, a title that is organized by World Athletics also formerly known as IAAF. The title is awarded to athletes partaking in various events and awarded to those who excel in that division. The title is most coveted by athletes who have or intent on competing in the Olympics and naturally, this title garners sensational media attention which brings these athletics under the limelight inspiring all those in less fortunate situations.

With the 2019 world of athletics drawing to a close, it will be interesting to see and watch these athletes compete in 2020.
