Apple recently rolled out Apple Pay for Canadians wishing to make purchases using the highly secure eWallet that works seamlessly with all their modern iPhone and iPad smartphones and tablets that employ Near Field Communication (NFC) technology. Canadian online casinos are now keen to capitalize on the popular payment method and have started offering it as an option to their customers.
While by no means ubiquitous across the iGaming industry in Canada, more and more brands are waking up to the fact that many Canucks wish to use Apple Pay wherever they can and that includes funding their casino accounts in a safe and secure manner. So, it’s only a matter of time until we see Apple Pay listed as a payment option in many more online casinos.
Apple’s payment technology basically stores all your credit and debit cards digitally on your mobile device, so that you can easily make safe and secure online transactions and even use it in physical shops that support the technology. It uses an NFC terminal when connecting to a store’s Apple Pay reader and then prompts the users to authorize a payment using Touch ID.
Online transactions are handled in a similar way, with Apple sending a message to your phone or tablet when authorization is required. Then you simply hold your thumb on the Home button until your fingerprint is successfully scanned. Apple tells the merchant that it’s all good and the transaction is completed. So, as the late Steve Jobs was very fond of saying, it just works.
So far, Royal Bank of Canada, Canadian Imperial Bank of Commerce can add their credit and/or debit cards to the Apple Pay ecosystem. Credit cards from ATB Financial and Canadian Tire Financial can also be added. While there have been announcements that TD Dominion Bank, Bank of Montreal and Bank of Nova Scotia will be joining Apple Pay, possibly by the time you’ve read this. This is all great news if you happen to bank with one of the institutions mentioned here.
It’s very simple. Open your Settings app on your iOS device and scroll down until you find Wallet & Apple Pay. Open that and select ‘Add Card’ at the top. Your camera app will fire up and you simply need to place your card within the white rectangle shown on the screen. Add your CVV security code from the back of the card and you’re good to go. Alternatively you can add your card details manually by clicking the blue link at the bottom of the screen.
Find an online casino in Canada that accepts Apple Pay – 888 Casino and Bet365 Casino are options, for example – and go through the sign up process to access your new account. If you’re already at a casino that accepts Apple Pay, head to the cashier as normal and choose Apple Pay from the dropdown just as you would for any other type of credit card or eWallet deposit.
Once selected and the amount you wish to deposit has been entered, Apple Pay will open your phone and ask you which card you would like to use. Verify the transaction with Touch ID or by entering your passcode (these options can be toggle in your Wallet & Apple Pay settings) and you’re done. Now go ahead and enjoy playing your favorite games with your new funds.
