3 Gambling Channels for the NZ Government

Publisert November 5, 2020

New Zealand is one of those countries where the government has taken complete control of all online gambling options. As a matter of fact, they only allow two operators to function in their borders, namely Lotto NZ and TAB. But now it seems as though the NZ government is contemplating a few more options, by consulting with its citizens and being more open to change.

The UK Way (Legalised)

In the United Kingdom, the UK Gambling Commission is the main body that manages and ensures that the citizens of the country are treated fairly and that all the regulations regarding gambling are obeyed. It is the Commission's responsibility to make sure that all casinos in the country follow all the rules regarding responsible gambling practices, fairness to its patrons and not allowing money laundering in any way. The way the latter is achieved is by ensuring that each of the operators develops a strategy known as Know Your Customer or (KYC), this way they know exactly who they are paying money out to. Furthermore, any bonuses or promotions on offer needs to adhere to legal terms and conditions.

USA (Semi-Legal)

In the US, only certain states have access to online sports betting, with this option Nevada, Delaware and Virginia are some of the states where the laws have allowed betting to take place. With this comes more job opportunities for the local people as well as an increase in the revenue income. In addition to this, the communities will also benefit from the legalising in these states, since charity is also part of the responsibility placed on the operators.

Canada and Finland (Cartels)

With this option, the countries control all forms of gambling, be it online or in land-based casinos. In most cases, because the options in these places are so limited, the countries have to face the facts that their citizens, then opt to gamble with offshore operators, which has a negative result of the revenue in the country, because the money is being bet outside the countries. Because of this, places like Canada and Finland, have now implemented laws banning this method of gambling. By controlling the options these states can generate decent revenue income as well as also being able to redirect some of the money into community projects.

In all the aforementioned options the cons seem to all be very similar in nature costs are high no matter which option is chosen. Taxes and high fees being charged for licences are common.
