Ithuba, the national lottery operator in South Africa, was pleased to announce that 42 players all managed to accurately guess the outcome and scores of 13 matches that were held from December 5th to the 6th. The total jackpot was R1,545,994 and all the winners each walked away with R36,809. Let’s find out how it happened.
The lottery operator hosted the Sportstake 13, which generated the jackpot of R1,545,994, after months of suspended soccer leagues in South Africa. And this was a great way for the game to kick off. Ithuba said that they are overjoyed that the 42 winners will be having a good festive season. The lottery operator reported that despite all of the challenges that the world has faced that they are happy that some people are still finding some sort of happiness. Busisiwe Msizi, Ithuba’s spokesperson, said that since the beginning of the year, the national lottery has paid out over R3 billion in prizes in South Africa and hopes to make a few more dreams come true before 2020 is over.
Two games form part of this selection of the national lottery and each have its own rules. Firstly, there’s the Sportstake 13 option where the punter needs to forecast the outcome of 13 matches. These matches are not just local games, it spans across the English Premier, the European Champions, the Spanish La Liga and Germany's German Bundesliga Leagues. In this game, the player needs only to successfully predict a minimum of 10 of the 13 matches to qualify for a prize. If all 13 matches are correctly predicted, then the player wins the jackpot. The aim here is not to forecast the final scores, but only to select if the home team wins, whether the match will end in a draw, or whether it will be an away win.
The other game is called Sportstake 8. Here the punter needs to not only bet on the outcome of these matches but has to also indicate what the score will be at half-time and then at the end of the game. For example, if your favourite team usually starts strong, then you can predict that at half-time they will still be in the lead, but then the away or home team, is stronger in the second-half, here the punter can bet on the other team and if that is correct, then you win the jackpot. The fixtures are normally available way before the game is scheduled to be played. The teams involved in this game include teams from South Africa, Germany, Spain, Italy and any other international games that may be scheduled to take place during that time.
