South Africa’s biggest Lottery Powerball grand prize of R135 million, from a draw that took place all the way in April 2020, is yet to be claimed. That means that one lucky winner is completely unaware of the life-changing jackpot waiting for them. So, if you’re someone who played the Lotto Powerball in April, you may want to check your numbers again.
Since the easing of the lockdown and most restrictions in June 2020, several players have claimed their winnings at the Ithuba offices around the country. So far, the biggest jackpot claim has been over R16 million from the lottery drawn on May 16 2020. However, Ithuba is still waiting for the year’s biggest winner to step forward and claim the massive cash prize of over R135 million. The draw for this prize took place on 28 April 2020, which was almost five months ago.
Busisiwe Msizi, Head of Corporate Relations at Ithuba said that they would like to mention to their players that all tickets that have expired during the course of the lockdown, specifically between the period of March 27 and June 1 2020, are being accepted for claims until October 30 2020. They also state that players have no reason to be anxious about losing any winnings if they are sitting with a ticket that falls within these timeframes.
Msizi continued to add that all players that are coming to claim their winnings are reminded that Ithuba is still under strict restrictions as per Covid-19. So those who visit an Ithuba office location are required to respect the conditions such as wearing masks, the practice of social distancing and of course, good hygiene.
Ithuba asks players for understanding and patience during this process and are reminded that winning lottery tickets expire after 365 days. This means that there is just over seven months for the lucky winner to step forward.
Ithuba has also announced that the Lotto jackpot from Saturday, 6 June 2020 has also been won, but the lucky winner is not yet known. The jackpot was worth a stunning R8, 129, 457.60 on just a R10.This proves that anyone can win a life-changing amount when playing with just a few Rands.
According to Ithuba, the winning lotto ticket was purchased at South Supermarket in Carletonville, Gauteng. The operator is hoping the winner makes contact soon and encourages all players in the Carletonville region to check their tickets. Once the winner claims his or her prize, Ithuba will go about validating the ticket. They will also provide free counselling and financial advice to the winner, which is standard procedure to all winners of R50 000 and more. Ithuba says its main priority is to offer the winner the right assistance so they can make the most of their life-changing win.
